bamboo toothbrushes: out with the old, in with the new

(Bamboo Toothbrushes available at our shop, here!)

At the beginning of this year, I started the tiny yellow bungalow blog. My goal was to learn to do nicer things for the planet and my own health and share my experiences in doing so. It was a bit overwhelming in the beginning to think of how I could benefit the planet on my own. But what I’ve learned in the past few months is that it’s the small daily decisions you make that can add up to be quite significant in protecting the environment.

Which brings me to the bamboo toothbrush.

Toothbrushes seem to be such a small problem when considering the amount of pollution on Earth. But what I learned is that 4.7 billion plastic toothbrushes are thrown into landfills every year around the world. That’s a lot!! And what seemed inconsequential actually amounts to a pretty large amount of trash.

So I made the switch to a more sustainable toothbrush option this past week! Excitingly, my new toothbrush arrived with 100% compostable and recyclable wrapping. It’s the coolest thing, because you can compost the packaging in your city’s compost facilities as well as the brush! Bamboo brushes apparently last the same amount of time as their plastic counterparts. However, fortunately when you finish with them, you can pull out the BPA-free bristles (which are recyclable) and send the handle to your city’s compost facilities. Additionally, since the handle is a piece of high quality bamboo, you could definitely upcycle it as a plant seedling marker or some other unique creation!  It’s also nice to know you’re not putting something in your mouth with potentially harmful toxic chemicals since it’s a USDA Certified Biobased Product.

Grab your very own bamboo toothbrush in our eco online shop today! Purchasing a sustainable product is making a vote against harming the planet; you CAN make a difference! 🙂
